Review: The Governess by Christi Caldwell

Montlake Romance, 2019

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I sit in total awe of Christi Caldwell. Why? Well, first, because she’s just a kick-ass writer. Full stop. But she’s also a super prolific writer. Based just on a quick count from my own Kindle purchases, she released six novels in 2018. SIX! Plus a few novellas. AND she’s a mother of three. Considering that since I’ve started writing up this review I have had to stop six times just to restart Baby Shark…she’s amazing.

Anyway, enough of my fawning…The Governess!

I loved this book. The Governess is classic Christi Caldwell…gritty and emotional and high-stakes drama. Both Reggie and Broderick are compelling characters. Both come to each other damaged but not destroyed. And both are made stronger by their love for one another. Christi is sooo good at flirting with the dark but ultimately showcasing light and redemption. It’s just good, good feels. I never miss a romance from Christi Caldwell.

The Governess releases THIS TUESDAY! (February 12, 2019) This is book three in her Wicked Wallflowers series. You don’t have to read the first two in order to enjoy The Governess but I do think you will enjoy it more if you do. So if you haven’t already, check out The Hellion and The Vixen. There’s also a related series that I ADORE called The Sinful Brides. You know what? Just go on ahead and read every book Christi’s ever written. Make things easier on yourself.

But definitely get excited for this Tuesday and The Governess!

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy.

Synopsis

Regina (Reggie) Sparks has been in love with Broderick Killoran for ten years, ever since he rescued her from the streets and made her a part of his collected family. But for as long as she’s lived and worked beside him in his infamous gaming hell, she’s never breathed a word about her feelings for him. And she’s also never shared with him her hopes and ambitions for her own future.

Broderick Killoran values loyalty above all things. So when he learns that Reggie plans to open her own establishment, the betrayal burns. And, being the ruthless business man that he is, he responds to her the way he would respond to any other competition…without mercy.

Tempers flare. Secrets and mistakes rise up and bite everyone in the butt. And long repressed feelings erupt.

Happy Romance Reading!
